Title: [chosen]
Challenge: [44]: Favorite
Words: 324 (apologies! but i couldn't cut it down further ..)
Characters: ... er. XIII Order? Vexen, Superior, others.
Spoiler warnings: References the background of Chain of Memories. Also, an unnamed cameo for one of the new characters in KHII.
Notes: Even in the most empty of hearts, there can be hurt, and envy ...
[chosen]
:: do you question my decision? ::
The words are soft, silent, mere shivers in their hollow hearts; and they react almost as one, bowing hooded heads low in fearful denial.
But neither are they accepting of this fate –
And one steps forward, wild raven-wing locks whipping madly;
though his wind-keen lances are hidden in soul’s-void, not daring to challenge his master with their presence.
“My lord, but why?
“He’s untested, craven; there is a rot to him – “
:: as of a rotting flower, yes. ::
:: the blossom-prince will serve me well. ::
:: do not question me again. ::
The lancer steps back again, head bowed low, his soul-winds stilled.
And there are no more questions.
A soft whisper passes amongst the unkindness of night-velvet shrouded figures;
it is not rebellion, this …
but confusion, in its own fashion, and something akin to fear.
:: Vexen. ::
:: Lexaeus. ::
:: Zexion. ::
The trio still as death stills, the dead-ice eyes of the eldest among them daring to meet their superior’s empty gaze.
:: you will accompany him to the Castle. ::
:: Axel, Larxene; they will meet you at the gates. ::
A splutter of protest dies unborn on the frost-master’s lips, as he feels a chill deeper than his own close around him briefly in subtle threat: I will unmake you.
He bows, and turns through the shivering dusk to accept this burden,
this unspoken insult; one of the least among them given power over his elders.
Why?
The blossom-prince – and his companion of death-bright thunder.
Unbelievable.
… but also -- their liege’s blood-flame hound --
Crossing the soul-dead threshold of their lord’s pale midnight court,
the frost-master turns to face his fellow exiles, a bitter smile upon pale lips.
It is foreign to their half-shade kind; but they must band as one again, as they see fit …
For their hollow king has found a new chosen amongst them …

Date: 2005-12-05 04:14 pm (UTC)Not only have I had much thesame idea about making a chapter from it, I'd actually cut a good deal from the original in order to make it reasonably drabble-sized; it just would have kept going if I hadn't.
I do intend to expand on it again, though, once exams and whatnot are over -- and KHII is released later this month, so I have the personalities of the other Order members. Since one of them stepped up quite unexpectedly at the beginning, I suspect he's important to my budding plot ^_-
Thank ye again!
