Challenge: Leon and the Puppies
Title: Missing - 101 Puppies
Wordcount: 232
Animals in Traverse Town tended to do strange things. Even the small ones that didn’t stand on two legs, human-height, and wear clothes. A feline jazz band toured the districts every few weeks. A batch of mice helped out at the dress shop in Third District. Another batch had apparently come from some sort of missing child rescue agency before their world had been snatched by the Heartless (some of these mice helped Cid with computer repair work).
Now the two Dalmatians of Third District. They looked perfectly normal, except the couple seemed to have misplaced about one-hundred-and-one puppies.
“…that doesn’t seem right. Are you sure you’re working that translation spell correctly, Yuffie?”
Yuffie stuck her tongue out at Leon. “Yes, Le-on. Anyway, Perdita here says she didn’t actually give birth to nearly one hundred puppies. Fifteen are theirs. The rest came into their guardianship.”
At Leon’s incredulous look, she said, “Don’t ask. It’s a long and weird story, and Pongo here keeps talking about some kind of woman devil.” She tried again, sounding it out. “De-‘vil? Huh. Weird. Maybe there is something wrong with the spell Cid lent us.”
Leon bent down and scratched Pongo behind the ears. “Well, whatever happened, the puppies are long gone now. Sorry, Pongo.”
Yuffie grinned. “Does Leon here have a soft spot for the Dalmatians? That’s so sweet.”
“Yuffie.”
“Yeah, yeah I’ll keep quiet now.”
---
A/N: For clarification, the translation spell was alluding to the fact that sometimes Disney animals are able to speak to humans, and other times all that comes out of their mouths are animals sounds when they try to communicate with the humans (Such was the case in 101 Dalmatians).
The references in the first paragraph are to The Aristocats, Cinderella, and The Rescuers, respectively.
