Who is who...
Title - Who's Who
Challenge - [33] Family
Word Count - 365
Notes - Can be set almost anywhere during the game, but I was thinking more along the lines of a rest in Traverse Town after fighting the second boss. I could have sworn I almost went over 500 words with this, how deceiving! o.O;
On Destiny Island his friends had been like his family. Tidus and Wakka were like the fun loving cousins that would come to visit on long weekends, Selphie like an aunt that parents would tell funny stories about because her carefree antics cheered all hearts, and Kairi and Riku…they were like brother and sister, as close as you could get to family without having the same blood.
Kairi’s caring nature was like the sweet younger sibling who you want to spoil rotten while Riku was like an older brother, protective but willing to push him to be better than he already was. Kairi herself had pointed this all out to him once over a soft fit of giggles.
And if she were here now, watching this dysfunctional group of heroes and companions he’d come to know, the redhead would probably say along the same things. Leon is like a new father, one who knows nothing about kids but willing to put forth the effort to guide and help him with Aerith’s knowing and kindly nature. While Kairi is like a younger sister to him, Yuffie is an older sister, wild and more than able to pass her easygoing enjoyment to anyone.
Cid was harder to tell, his odd habits and gruff demeanor more withstanding of a grandfather than anything else. He is too old to care about the world and do things to fix it, but young enough to want to live in it, passing on tidbits and skills to those youngsters with the energy to take on the world. Though the blonde was hard to put into a category, Donald and Goofy are the easiest. They are close enough to be like those wacky uncles that wanted nothing more than to spoil the family and keep the kids happy on their visits. If there is one thing those guys could do, it is make him smile.
But all the same, despite how he knows he’s more than welcome here, despite how close he’s come to know these people and learned alongside them… There’s still one thing that none of them could take and fill for him, and that is his mother’s loving hug.
