Title - At Last
Word Count - 582
Footnote - Sadly this is the longest piece I have ever written in a long time. And secondly, I decided to post this after long contemplation. Hopefully you all enjoy. ^_~ AU Riku.x.Sora New Year's lovin'. It also helps to listen to Etta James to get the feeling going. *shrug*
At last…
My love has come along…
The tiniest sounds of paper being crushed reverberated along inside the notes of Etta James' singing. Long candles located in various spaces were lit, creating flickering shadows around a dancing duo. Confetti and empty champagne glasses littered the wooden floors, leftovers from a forgotten party that earlier participated.
My lonely days are over…
And life is like a song!
Sora lazily laid his head against Riku's shoulder. His hands, equally as lazy, were folded behind his lover's neck. Riku, on his part tightly held Sora close to him by his waist. Together both men slowly moved in tune with the song playing.
Their New Year's Eve party had gone quite well, despite late decisions to have one. Social mingling commenced, appetizers had been served, many games ensued, and booze had been heavily drunk. Everyone they invited had a blast, ultimately themselves. It helped that Riku's penthouse, complete with roof gardens, withheld an exquisite view of Twilight Town.
After midnight struck, people slowly began departing from Riku's residence. Soon, well after two AM , his large apartment was hollow once again. Except for himself and his lover, that is. Plus the aftermath which he refused to think about for another twenty four hours.
Sora released a tired sigh. That day's rushed planning and last minute shopping had almost driven him over the edge. He would be nursing a killing headache now had it not been for Riku's… release technique for stress.
The brunette felt comforting circles rub against his back.
"Mmm…" he lowly groaned.
He couldn't see or feel it, but Sora was certain Riku was lightly smirking. "Rough day?"
"You should know… you were there, love."
"Ah, so I was."
Neither knew what purpose their words elected, but neither cared.
"You know, I used to watch my parents dance to this song," Sora softly spoke up after a moment.
Riku moved his head from the side of Sora's noggin, to rest his chin on top of it. "Really?"
"Yeah… I remember sitting on the stairs one night, just watching. Dad must have been giving mom her surprise birthday present. Something he kept refusing to tell through that whole day.
"They looked really happy then."
Riku responded curiously, "They aren't anymore?"
"No… they still are. It's just… the scene was really something to behold." Sora smiled fondly.
Indeed it was a memory to appreciate. His parents were dancing in the same manner as he and Riku were now. Except ceiling lights were on and it wasn't a CD player playing, but a record player. Crackling in music always seems to make a song more genuine somehow. And the atmosphere around his mom and dad was thick with love. You could see, feel, and sense their feelings for one another. It made Sora want to coo.
Chuckling floated into his relaxed hearing. "You trying to say we're not in love, Sora?"
Horrified, Sora backed away from his pillow and looked directly into aqua eyes. "No! Nononono!"
White teeth shone as Riku smiled, still chuckling, "I was just kidding! Don't take things so personally…"
Fumbled sentences flooded from the brunette's mouth. Like many other episodes, Riku swiftly kissed Sora.
"I bet we could accomplish things your dad didn't give your mom that night…"
"Riku!"
Much kissing, that later escalated into something more, proved that Riku didn't mean what he said, but didn't take back certain implications.
And here we are in heaven…
For you are mine… At Last.
