A Pirate's Life

^^;; Here it is, my drabble entry. I admit... I had a lot of fun with this. An insane amount, I believe.

The music lyrics: Peter Pan's A Pirate's Life.

Theme: Disney Song
Title: A Pirate's Life
Word Count: 473

*----*----*

Riku grinned, leaping onto the boxes and waving his wooden sword about with a flourish and a menacing twinkle in his eye. “I didn’t think you’d come, Sora!”

Sora gave an exasperated huff of air, glaring up at his best friend, who was currently striking a dashing pose, flexing his non-existent muscles. A red and white stripped cloth was wrapped around his head, the tail ends billowing in the breeze, and an enormous clip-on hoop earring was attached to his ear, something he had stolen from his mother’s jewelry box. He was wearing a yellow T-shirt, which hadn’t been cleaned for several days, wrinkling and with a spot of a ketchup stain. Over this was a black cotton vest that he had gotten out of the attic, a dusty tomb in which Riku always explored to the fullest content.

Large, baggy shorts that were too big for him, received from a great aunt… A wooden dagger strapped at his waist… And then, on his face, a patch. A pirate’s patch.

“It’s good to see you again,” Riku proclaimed mockingly, rushing down the stacked boxes and jabbing his sword at Sora.

Sora huffed, bottom lip jutting out into an adorable pout as he balled his hands into fists at his sides. “Where are Tidus and Wakka?!”

“Are they that important to you?” Riku growled, crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes as his brows drew down sharply. The ten-year-old shook his head. “More important than old friends? Instead of worrying about them, you should be asking about her…”

Riku gallantly stepped to the side, waving a hand in a wide arc to reveal Kairi sitting on the “deck” of the wooden boxes, a handkerchief around her mouth and duct tape covering her body, holding her firmly in place to a palm tree. Her blue eyes widened at the sight of Sora, and she let out a muffled squeal for help.

“Kairi!” Sora cried.

“That’s right,” Riku purred. “While you were off goofing around, I finally found her! Our dear beloved princess! And now I shall throw her off the plank!” He pointed his sword ominously to the side of the paopu island.

“Noooo!” Sora wailed. “Riku, why are you doing this?!”

“Because!” And Riku tossed back his head, eyes bright, and cackled. “A pirate’s life is a wonderful life!”

Sora drew his own wooden sword. “En guarde!” he proclaimed, rushing forward and letting loose a wild battle cry. “Don’t worry, Princess Kairi, I’ll save you!”

Riku’s sword met his, and the fight for their beloved Kairi’s freedom began. Except that Sora didn’t know the fight was actually for him, and not the red-haired girl watching with eyes glowing in excitement.

But Riku figured he’d do whatever he could to make Sora happy.

“I shall thwart your plans, matie!”

“Dieeee!”

“Ahhhh! That hurts! Garrrr!”

“Heeheehee!"

XD Thank you so much for writing that, it made my day. Goodness that makes me want to go tape my friend's girlfriend to a tree so we can have a duel like Riku and Sora. XD

I think it's quite adorable. XD You managed to capture the essence of childhood without making it too childish (as in using silly!kid!speak that get on my nerves, like Wiku, Wiku...) and there's a sense of kid innocence that makes me feel almost wistful for the Destiny Island kids. It's a sweet take on the challenge.

XD This is so fegging adorable. <3

Am I the only one who thought the "while you were off goofing around, I finally found her" part is kind of a parallel with the game?

XD DC, it is. Exact lines and all, save for Donald and Goofy instead of Tidus and Wakka . . . well, until throwing her off the plank ^_^;;

But ohmigosh, so cute! X3 *sitting here giggling* I love the way you portrayed them all, and like fire_bringer said, it's awesome how you got the child mannerisms without the kidspeak.

Ah, adorable scene. XD And Pirate!Riku is a highly amusing image, thank you for dwelling on it. I like the little details on where he aquired the clothes, too. It takes away from Riku's fantasy and adds a realistic angle to the whole thing, really making them out to be little kids. Poor Kairi, duct-taped, but loving it. XD

It was interesting how you incorperated the lines from the game, too. they all worked perfectly for your situation ...although I think you should've changed the "old friends" line, since Sora and Riku have known Wakka and Tidus for longer than Kairi.

I really like the whole thing, though. Adorable idea, very nicely executed. ^^

You must have read my mind when I came up with Disney song challenge because this was exactly the kind of drabble I was hoping for when I posted that challenge. You incorporated the lyrics perfectly, and the scene was very cute, the way it was executed. The lines from the game were a definite surprise, but a good kind of surprise. I was impressed! I especially like the very last part, with the fighting lines. XD It's the "Garrrr!" that cracks me up. I think the drabble could have done without the boy's love hints--I feel it would have been stronger, really... but I know why you put it in there. Also, the description of their clothing was beautiful, hehe, with the ketchup stain. Great job.

Nice drabble! I loved the description of Riku's clothing, hahah, all that childish dirtiness is real and adorable (and pirate-ish)! Thank you for sharing!
