Riiiku~ It's not gonna work!
Yes huh! Just watch! I'll make it grow! I just gotta do it like your mommy told me!
Riku remembered that day well, sometime when he had just turned five and his younger best friend was finally allowed to venture the play island alone with him. He didn't remember much from before Kairi's arrival, but there was that one day...
Riku, the pupu fruit is sticky! C'mon!!
I need to finish, hold on! There! That should do it! A tree will grow from these seeds!
Nuh-uh! A tree can't grow from something that small!
Then where do trees come from, huh?
His mother had brought it to him as a souvenir after traveling around some of the larger islands. She'd thought the legend had been adorable. Back then Riku hadn't understood the significance behind the Paopu's symbolism, but...
Always the curious one, he had to try it. Earlier that week, Sora's mother had taught him how to plant fruit, and he'd been waiting for the right moment to try growing something from seeds.
And after showing off and breaking his souvenir open, what had he discovered?
I dunno where they come from, but-- Ack! The pupu!
Oh yeah! Let's eat it! Mommy also said something special happened when two people shared the pupu.
Like what?
Dunno, but we'll find out!
All those years ago, he'd done it. In just a tiny hole at the side of his island, the seeds were planted. He'd have his own tree, a Paopu tree, so he'd have lots of little stars to share when he grew up.
The odds had been against the seeds, but years had passed. The tree had grown.
And though Riku remembered all about that one special day, Sora had forgotten.
