Title: Lull
Word Count: 356
Characters/Pairings: Sora/Riku/Kairi
Summary: They wait for the storm to come, and they smile.
Notes: Written for the key_blade theme no. 16: Calm.
"I think there's a storm coming."
Riku tilts his head back, looks up at the sky. It's roiling with dark and acid-green clouds, musty purple and a strangely shimmering amber, that reminds him of nightmares that still haunt him on occasion. "You think?"
"Yeah," Sora grins, coming up beside him, warm and still shorter than him, but just as broad, now, if not a little more. He's capable, strong, and Riku prefers looking at him to the hell that's unfolding up above. "Maybe we'll get some rainbows when it's over."
"You're so gay."
Sora snorts, and nudges him impishly with his shoulder. "Like you can talk."
Behind them comes Kairi's sleepy voice as she emerges to face the day, saying, "I like rainbows. They're-" a pause, for a yawn, and then she finishes with a lopsided smile, "-pretty."
"Know what?" Sora says, voice a bright bubble of happy. The normality makes Riku ease into the railing of the ship, now at his back, and smile. Sora pulls Kairi to them with a broad, callused hand, and she steps lightly and steadily over the rolling planks.
"What?" she grins.
"I think that you're pretty."
And he's right. Kairi looks good in their clothes, too big for her frame, sliding down hard muscles and soft, dark skin. Her hair is messy, as messy as Riku's white locks are, buffeted by the wind. Sora's blue eyes are electric as they go back and forth between the two of them. Riku glances down, and realizes that he's wearing Sora's shirt by accident.
He smirks, knowing exactly what his male lover is thinking. "Don't even think about it." Kairi is grinning as Sora pouts and makes puppy dog eyes at him, something he’s gotten much too good at over the years. Kairi’s hand is slim and comforting in his, as they tease each other.
There is a storm coming, but the three of them are used to storms, and Sora is right. Maybe, afterwards, when the sky is slowly clearing, and the air begins to still, there will be rainbows arching, festive and bright, to paint for them another new beginning.
