challenge: [194] gift
title: homemade exchange
wordcount: 450
notes: you would give a toothed, living wreath as a gift to an espcially deserving person, too.
"And you're...Riku! Alright, sonny, I have an especially special present for you!"
Three was too late for a skeleton dressed up as Santa Claus to be in his bedroom with a tiny fake fir tree, was all Riku thought. "Go away, It's not Christmas," he said thickly, and tried to go back to sleep.
"Of course not!"
"Then why are you here?"
"Because it's Christmas Eve!"
Riku pulled the pillow over his head, but Jack took it and put it into his sack. He was pretty sure he could add some claws to it for next Christmas.
"I have a tree for your house - rather underdecorated, I saw - and a friend of mine, Sora, made you a gift all by himself! He even wrote a note!"
Riku sat up resignedly and was handed a large box wrapped in black and white paper. "Is this a real rat's head?"
"Yes, of course! Open the present, Sora said he named it Harry."
The note was brief.
Hey Riku
I don't know where you are but Santa sees everyone at Christmas
"Santa?"
"Tonight I am Sandy. Open it, open it! Sora wouldn't tell me what it was, but I've just got to find out!"
and that's you too. I don't know where you're hiding (or why!!) but (real) Santa says you'll turn up. I trust him. And you.
Anyway, Merry Christmas. xxoo Sora
Other then his entirely girly signature, it was sort of sad, and Riku almost got into some heavy thoughts, the well I did destroy our home, and if you're over that, I also turned myself into that guy that tried to kill everyone ever, the whole angst trip he'd been putting off for a few years now.
Fortunately the present's branches that moved to strangle him moved that particular party to some better time.
The wreath had teeth and that the ribbon intertwined throughout it said haha u jerk!! That was all he saw before it was out of it's box and attempting to eat his stomach, though, there might have been some poisonous berries or decayed birds in it, too.
"Of course," the skeleton said smiling brightly, "It's not what's in the box so much at all! Sora said it's all about the feeling. I think this feeling means that he's annoyed at you, and to punish you he sent this, don't you?"
The wreath was chewing Riku's hair enthusiastically, it's four arms laced around his torso in a scratchy, holiday-scented hug, and he seemed rather distracted trying to discourage one branch from getting too friendly as he said, "Yeah, sounds right. Merry Christmas, man. And if you see Sora, give him this for me."
Jack raised his middle finger bones curiously. "This is a gift?"
"Sure, it's the kind you give to punks like him."
