Title: Keep Telling Yourself That
Word Count: 400
Rating/Warnings: G, spoilers for BBS
Notes: I'm not the only one who thought Aqua's accusation to Terra in RG came out of nowhere, right? Time-frame is after Enchanted Dominion, all character introspection.
He cast Fire into my face- but without power behind it. I was able to reach out with one hand, wave it away, and run through the spell to strike, and strike again.
I don't remember the rest of the match. I don't remember his words after it; only mine.
You aren't as good with magic as I am. I'm sorry, Terra, but you aren't.
I remember his glare.
I thought he would rise from the grass and storm off- but he smiled.
I'll just have to find some kind of magic only I can do.
This was years ago. Before Ven came to us. Before we learned to be wary of Darkness.
Before Terra showed me a spell that was flame tinged with brown edging into black tongues of fire and burned cold. He won that match.
Before I could compliment him, the Master was between us, my face in his hands, demanding to know whether I was hurt. He shouted at Terra, and his voice was terrible.
We had wondered, between ourselves, how he had come by the scars upon his face. Now we knew.
The Master forbade use of Darkness.
After that day, Terra never meant to call upon that power. But when you know there is strength at your hand, yours for the grasping, it is difficult not to reach out.
He has.
At times that he has grown angry, or fallen into a panic- but he lets go.
Mindful of the Master's warning, he lets go. I've wondered before if he would use the power of Darkness in a true fight. If he would let it shield his life, or the life of another. But Terra...
Terra would never do this, and I don't believe the one who claims he did.
Maleficent knows nothing of love or kindness, or helping others. The fairies said so. Her actions are governed by her desire for power and the assuagement of her pride. She would steal someone's heart.
But she doesn't have a Keyblade (and a keyblade can open anything).
Which doesn't matter, because Terra would never do such a thing. Ven knows that. I know that.
Master Eraqus... is just worried.
It is true that Terra has fallen back on that kind of power. Times... when he grows angry, or frustrated. He only wishes to do his best- to be strong.
... No matter what it takes.
