There is darkness in every heart.
It is there when ignorance causes the proud to attempt the unspeakable on their own … and it sings, softly, whispering
this is the way you can save your people
It is there when callousness calls it, calls it to unwitting hosts, the secret shadowed doors of the heart swung wide by false desires.
… and it grows, soft endless night, when it is extinguished in other hosts,
rent to onyx mists by unnatural growth of the light within.
see what you have done?
It is there when despair floods a fading, bled-empty heart, as those once-loved die under hands unable to turn back the midnight tide they have unleashed.
send them down down deep they are useless to you

It is there when pride taints one once arrayed against it; the sweetest are those who fall to the dark by their own blindness.

It is there when desire – sweet scarlet desire, darkness-kin – calls it to the fore;
for power calls to power,
