Title: Meeting of the Crickets
Word Count: 223
Spoilers: No real spoilers.
Notes: How dare they not have Crick-ee in the game! *pouts* He was one of my favorite characters in Mulan. Jiminy didn't get enough love either. ^^

Sora woke to the sound of Jiminy’s voice. He raised his head from the pillow, blinking and yawning silently. Goofy’s whistling snore and Donald’s muttering continued uninterrupted.

“She drew a mustache on her own face by accident?” Jiminy asked amidst stifled laughter, obviously trying to keep his voice down. Soft chirping joined it- a sound as close to mirth as a purr-chirp could manage.

The laughter stopped after a time, and the purr-chirp continued, subdued.

“Well don’t look at it that way,” Jiminy said, consoling. “Think about the good that’s come of it. If Mulan had become a bride- she might not be here, helping out in the army!”

The chirping was thoughtful, then more confident, even perky.

Sora finally located the conversationalists, sitting on the overturned rice bowls in one corner of the tent.

“Jiminy,” he muttered, yawning again, “who’re you talking to?” Sora’s bleary eyes could barely make out a small, shiny black shape next to the tiny insect-turned-conscience.

“Sora,” he said softly, “meet Crick-ee. Crick-ee, meet Sora.” Sora barely made out a tiny gloved hand pointing at the other shape, which appeared to be waving a thin leg at him. “He’s Mulan’s Lucky Cricket.”

“Oh,” Sora yawned again. “That’s nice.” He started dropping off again to Crick-ee’s chirping.

“Well,” Jiminy was answering, “first you have to meet the Blue Fairy-”

Ooh, excellent play with Disney canon. Very cute. And is it bad I'm mildly in love with half-awake!Sora?

This is so adorable and I am ashamed to admit that I forgot about Crik-ee. I love the way that Jiminy and Crick-ee hare having such an animated conversation. I like the way you make Jiminy seem much more at ease with the other cricket, as if you know, the humans just can't understand the life of a cricket entirely and he's very glad to be able to have a real conversation for a change.

I like the detail that the two are sitting on overtoruned rice bowls. I lvoe the way Sora is too sleepy to know what's going on.

I also adore how Jiminy seems to be giving Crick-ee advice on how to become a talking cricket at the end. This is just sheer genius. It's sweet and amusing and funny.

I was thinking about the match-maker too and how it would be hilarious if Sora and Donal and Goofy had to meet with her for some reason. I can imagine how they'd enrage her.

Nifty! I was wondering where Crick-ee was during the game and you answered it for me!
