He looks up at you, shining blue eyes begging you to tell him the story just one more time.

So you do. You tell of old times: of sinister places overrun with dark creatures, of worlds that were but should not have been, of beings without hearts and others that consume them, of friends and lovers and wielding a key. For a moment your wizened eyes close as you remember those days long ago—you can still feel the cool handle of the blade against your palm even though its been lifetimes since you’ve held it.

And he’s smiling at you now, asking if it’s all true. But when you open your mouth to speak, another voice cuts you off.

“Of course not, silly, you know it’s impossible to go to other worlds!”

“I know, Mama, but I wish it were.”

The smile fades; she lifts the small boy from your lap. Blue eyes are longing now for those adventurous tales, wanting to explore the vast existence beyond this world.

Part of you is sad for the boy who will never know how it feels to travel the worlds, and part of you is sad for the boy who never again felt part of one.

Well, this is interesting. I'll be honest; second-person fics have never been my favorite, but I like this.

thanks very much! I never wrote second person before, but the story came to me in second person and I didn't want to anger the muses you know . ^_^ Usually I stay away from second person, writing or reading, but the story wouldn't have it any other way. glad you like it!

I actually really like second person fics when done well, and this counts.

Sora's wife/daughter/some-other-woman (I actually like how ambiguous that is) is too cruel, wah. Taking Sora's audience away like that. I can't personally imagine Sora not feeling Home ever again, but the way you've contrasted it here, the idea really works. I love how much you were able to do in just 200 words!

I realized last night that I forgot to put this in, but I have limited computer time this weekend as I am not home. sorry. the image of him not feeling home, was more to the point that he has been so many places and made so many friends that home is in many places (worlds in his case) and not just one. and while he chooses to stay here in this one world and make his home. there are little pieces of him that belong elsewhere. ^^ sort of like going home after college and realize it feels different and then understanding that the world isn't different but you are for actually having gone other places. ^^ I actually just wrote this longer and then tried to cut it to more direct and consequently am writing myself into confusion especially because I should start diner before

i_got_spunk gets back from the store ~~because i am her bitch this break~~ because it really is my turn to make it ^^ and I have to start it. but I wanted to write about the feeling. hope I didn't make him sound too angsty or anything. it was supposed to be bittersweet. he had to give something up to gain the family he loves

Ah! That makes more sense to me. Thanks for adding this. XD I think that's so true. Sora makes so many friends and allies on his journey, and a part of him stays in each of the worlds, as he indicates to Pooh Bear. Hope dinner goes well, lol, I'm sure i_got_spunk is a cruel mistress, hee.
