and so my attempts to avoid writing porn continue.

Title: Tomorrow
Word count: 338
Characters: Braig, Dilan
Spoilers: You bet. Might wanna avoid this unless you beat KHII.

Notes: So this is basically what my submission WOULD have been for the Tomorrow challenge. I pondered it for a few minutes and came up with this. I've always been interested in the apprentices, before everything.. went wrong, as it were. (was that vague enough?)

"Tomorrow," Dilan said, raising his glass and staring into the wine-dark depths. "Tomorrow, my friend, we leave all this behind." A hint of a smile played on his lips.

Braig grinned and sat beside him on the arm of the couch, taking a swig of his beer. "Tomorrow, man. I almost can't believe it."

"Xehanort might be crazy, you know," Dilan pointed out.

Braig's laugh was sharp. "As if we didn't already know that." He nudged Dilan none too gently with his knee, forcing the other man to move over so Braig could slide onto the couch proper. "Good thing we're just as insane as he is."

"If that's a good thing at all," Dilan said quietly, swirling the wine in his glass, still staring up at it. He had yet to take a sip.

"Ah, don't worry so much, man," Braig said genially, clapping Dilan on the back. Dilan choked and nearly dropped his wine, shooting Braig a glare. The other man just laughed.

"Come on," he said, sitting forward, palming the beer. His eyes were alive with a different kind of light. "This is everything we've dreamed of. Everything we've been working towards." Braig's gaze hardened. "Everything that bastard Ansem wanted to forbid us."

Dilan winced. Part of him still ached at their betrayal of their old, formerly beloved mentor.

"Dilan." Braig's voice was quieter, and Dilan had to look up at him this time. "Stop worrying so much. I know you care about the old man. But think about how proud he'll be when all this turns out successful, and we can show him things like he'd never dreamed of! We’ll make this world a better place, Dilan."

Dilan was silent for a long moment. He didn't need to see the slight quiver in the surface of the wine to know that his hands were shaking.

He sighed, then gamely tried a smile and raised his glass. "You're right as always, my friend. To tomorrow."

Braig grinned. "That's the spirit. To tomorrow!"

They clinked glasses.

Wonderful. Absolutely lovely. Apprentices are so very interesting to read, and this was a great interpretation. Love. :)
