He was the most popular boy in the class and her heart fluttered whenever he smiled at her. It was impossible not to love him, she told herself, for his heart was as wide as the sky he was named for. Everyone, even surly silver-haired Riku, smiled in Sora’s presence.
She fingered the yellow star-shaped eraser on her desk, the one he had left for her. Heat suffused her cheeks and she wanted to hide her face. She felt incredibly foolish.
“He really likes you,” Kairi’s warm breath tickled her ear as the other girl leaned forward to whisper, her clever hands still expertly twining blonde hair into a braid.
"Are you okay with that?" she whispered back. "I know you... and he..."
Kairi waved a hand, airily dismissive. "Childhood crushes, you know how those are. But what he feels for you... that's real." Her eyes sparkled with an impish light. "Come over to my house after school and we'll get you a new outfit. I bet Sora'd notice."
Her heart thumped wildly in her chest. She threaded her fingers with Kairi's, seeking reassurance, and felt a gentle squeeze in response. It made her smile, and gave her courage enough to sneak a glance at Sora.
He was looking at her, his smile wide and his eyes blue as - a very blue crayon smear on white paper.
Her hands were shaking; she couldn't hold her colors steady.
The acrid smell of electricity was in the air and Namine hurriedly shoved this picture back under the other ones. Larxene could mock and taunt and draw blood with words sharp as her knives. She would make Namine cry, but never over this.
Not this silly girlish dream.

I'm usually wary of High School AU- but that's a fabulous twist at the end.
*applauds you* :D

I'm secretly fond of High School AUs, though I know they can be horrendous.I think Namine during the events of CoM would wish desperately that her life was a high school AU. It's worlds better than what she was going through then.
