Notes: Roxas has great dreams, perfect ones, in fact. No warnings here; but a bit spoiler-ish for the beginning of KH2~
He's dreaming.
He knows he is. He's a hero here, but he knows that he's really just Roxas everywhere else.
But he doesn't mind. It's a great dream.
Aladdin's arms are locked tight around his Princess Jasmine. They're beaming their thanks. "It's nothing really." Roxas says modestly. "We never would have let that creep get her. I mean, we're the heroes -- it's all in a day's work. Right, Donald, right, Goofy?"
They know that Roxas killed Jafar and saved the Princess of Heart with his strength alone. But they also know that he's generous and benevolent and thinks nothing of sharing his glory with his sidekicks. So they accept Aladdin and Jasmine's thanks, but they make sure to keep in mind that it's borrowed honor.
And then Alice is on trial. She's going to lose her head if he's not careful, or worse, her heart.
But Roxas knows what he's doing. He's got four boxes, all filled with evidence. And besides, he's a brilliant speaker, more orator then lawyer. The Queen may be mad, but there's no denying Roxas's silver tongue and delicately crafted passion. The Queen is going to buy it and Alice is going to go free -- but even if something goes wrong, if he has to fight -- then he'll win easily and he won't be injured at all, that's how strong a fighter he is.
Speaking of fighting...
He's dueling, now, his heavy black Keyblade deflecting the long, slender-sharp blade, over and over and over again. The pale-haired freak is getting all worked up, especially when his fire misses Roxas and his Darkness misses the Light.
"You're going down," Roxas promises, but Sephiroth doesn't believe it. He rushes the hero with the sword for the last time.
Pity, Roxas thinks, as he parries with the Keyblade, spins quick and neatly, before cutting the bastard down. He doesn't know how I always keep my promises.
And he won, the very first time he fought Sephiroth. He was the one true hero, after all. No one else could compare. Donald and Goofy are applauding him, but Leon is still composed because he knew that it would happen like this. Hadn't he looked at Roxas first, and said, this is our Hero?
But the adventure wasn't over -- he had to go on.
"Roxas...you're not coming back?" Kairi's worried. And she's something else. Another boy might not see it -- see that she's longing, wanting, desiring her own adventure -- but Roxas does.
He grins at her, saying, "I can't. The worlds are still in danger." They're drifting apart, but he's not so far away that he can't catch up her arms. "But it doesn't matter--" One quick strong pull, and she's stumbling off the sand, up onto the hero's path. "You're coming with me."
The Princess -- he always knew she was the Princess -- smiles gratefully. And opens her mouth ---
saying something, but there's only ---
--- black and white fuzz, loud static noise on the great hallucinatory screen that plays his dream. It skips, skips, skips, and then, bzztpop, it's over.
Reality comes in instead -- it's bright out and it's high time to get up. He gets ready, grinning a little as he works through the nonsensical half-stories the night's sleep left in his head.
Him, the hero? The Worlds' chosen one? It's crazy...though...he would have made a great hero. A better one, even...better then who though...
But the dream is already fading. Even as he tries to grab on to that one important name, the story is gone. Huh. Well...the Hero dream, it's always a fun dream while it lasts, Roxas's best, in fact -- but he knows that it's only a dream.
And dreams always end.
