Title: Because We Can
Word Count: 310
Spoilers: If you don’t know who Ansem’s six apprentices are/were.
Notes: So a while ago I was talking with
osmandias and we had an idea. ‘What if Xehanort and the other apprentices had never succumbed to darkness?’ The result is this AU series here. Some of you may already have seen it- but we're always adding!
Why is it that Even and Braig are like the slapstick pair among the apprentices?
I'm not sure either. Thank god for potions, cure spells, and moogle witch doctors.
Slight crossover with Portal.
"What's that, kid?"
Kairi held up the silvery little box for Braig's inspection. Box- cube, with irregular sides. It seemed to be an odd combination of metal and gummi, with molded corners and grey notches on the side. The center of each side was a darker grey than the edges, with a pale grey circle in the center. Each center had a heart on it, and there was a bright- almost luminous- pink line running through four of the sides.
"Even made it- he says it's a companion cube."
Braig stroked his chin a few times. "...What does it do?"
Kairi lowered it to her other hand and held it between them. "Um..."
"Like- does it open, or talk or something like that?"
"No... I don't think so. But it's cute."
"You mean Even made something... that doesn't do anything?"
"...I guess so."
Braig stared. Even walked in the door and Braig stared at him.
"Dude, are you feelin' okay?"
The other scholar raised an eyebrow. "I'm perfectly fine. Why?"
"You made something and it doesn't do anything?" Braig gaped. Kairi had begun to giggle- and giggled even harder as Even approached his desk and Braig sprinted to the other side of the room, as if he were contagious.
Even sneered at him. "I'll have you know, the Miniature Weighted Companion Cube is a very effective paperweight, and," he added, "it hits its target every time."
Braig looked even more horrified. "You mean there's a BIGGER one?"
He didn't register the part about it hitting its target until he'd sidled halfway toward the door.
"Allow me to demonstrate," Even murmured, holding out his hand for it. Kairi laid the cube in his palm. Even wound up and let it fly.
Braig got one step away from the door before the cube caught him square in the side of the head.
