Challenge [198]: Exchange
Title: Titania
Wordcount: 315
Notes: Sitting around, being totally disturbed by my TV. ._.; Also, please believe they're Heartless for the next five minutes.
---
He sits at the bottom of the cave and pokes the little Heartless quietly. It just blinks mournfully at him, and he is a little bit inquisitive and uproots a near one from its hold. These ones, unlike most of the different Heartless he's seen, are forever stuck in place, held there to watch as many hearts and souls move by them. They, unlike the rest, cannot collect hearts, and he wonders curiously what is their purpose.
The little one that he's pulled up looks at him, and it's scared, he sees. Its eyes are large and white and are fearfully watching his own blue ones, and he tilts his head. "You okay, little guy?"
The witch, further inside the cave, is busy with something else (or maybe someone else), and he's pretty sure she has no idea he's around. "You look kinda scared... I think I remember you from before, though."
A hand on his, a confident female voice assuring him that she knows and understands what he feels. He frowns a little, bites his lip. She sounds, though, like she can help. Her price is steep, but not unbearable for the exchange she proposes.
And then his heart is being torn from his body, and someone else is born, swimming to the surface with unfamiliar limbs. He's not scared, he's not frantic, but this new person knows he should feel something when he realizes there is no beat where his heart should have been.
Demyx sighs, gets to his feet in the mouth of the dragon-like cave where Ursula resides. His body, because he is nothing, does not change, and he feels no discomfort in being leagues under the sea with no air. He can't die, after all.
He turns on his heel, opens a portal, and leaves.
The ghost of a cowardly, blue-eyed merman still lingers in Ursula's lair.
