Challenge: Beginnings
Title: Enough
Word Count: 257
Notes: Not exactly my favourite work, nor my best, IMO. A lot of strange-ness abounds. Plus a fixation on Wakka/Riku friendshipfics recently for me.
Enough
"Riku?"
He could see the silver-haired teen sitting on the bowed trunk of the paopu tree, gloved hands placed comfortably behind his head, eyes closed. For a moment, he stopped his steps, wondering if it was just a stupid question. His lips twisted up; amused by the strange fact that someone younger than him awed him.
"Wakka?" Green eyes flashed along with the trademark smirk. "What is it?"
Well, it was a bit late to back down now. Wakka scratched the back of his head, laughing a little.
"I just wanna ask ya something, ya? Why us? Why is it only us here, not the other kids on the main islands? Why you and Sora and Selphie and Tidus and me?"
He had asked himself that question many times. It just seemed odd, the five of them, all alone on the island. And it seemed even odder, that Riku stayed with them.
Chose them, really.
He pities you.
"I don't really know, ya." There was a teasing lit to Riku's voice as he mimicked Wakka's speech, hopping down from his spot on the tree. He mock-punched Wakka, grinning now. "Don't think so much, Wakka. It just isn't you."
"Ya, but…"
He believed that Riku would have all the answers. Heck, he looked up to him.
Riku must have seen the strange look on his face. "I see you guys as my friends. No one else gets on my island." He reached up a bit to ruffle his hair. "Isn't that enough?"
He pities you.
Maybe. But he still wasn't convinced.
"Ya."
And he smiled a weak smile.
