Because I am obsessed and this imagery got firmly lodged between my ears (next to the image of the Fruits Basket cast doing the same general thing)set pre-pre-kingdom hearts

Selphie had seen a play. And if anyone listened to her, they would hear about how "wonderful and magnificant" it was.
Thus the reason her friends were dressed as they were.
Currently, she was forcing them to sing half remembered songs and act out the play.
Kairi was to be the much-sought after girl, Christine.
Sora was playing her fiancee/hero, Raul.
And Riku got pinned with the slightly misunderstood "villian", the Phantom of the Opera.
If any of them were to remember these events those years later, they might find the irony funny at the way their future played out.
But in reality, it may have been this moment when things turned for our dear group of friends...
Because the emotional trauma I can feel already building from something that is in the process of happening. Set pre-pre kingdom hearts.

Yuffie held the small dog in her arms, its labored breathing was evident even from the distance that Squall stood. "Do something!" She sobbed.
The boy turned away. "We can't."
She looked up at him with teary eyes. "You have to! Please, don't let her die." She doubled over, holding the dog close to her. "Please," she whimpered.
But Squall knew, he knew better than this mere slip of a girl that there were somethings in life that magic was not allowed to interfer with.
And the natural death of an animal who was considerably old in her dog-years was one of them.
