Notes: If you've played up through 'the end of summer vacation' and know what's up with Axel and Roxas, you're probably fine for spoilerage. (I haven't beaten the game yet, so I probably couldn't put in major spoilers if I tried. ^^;)
Roxas stares at him as if he's never seen him before - and in a way, Axel thinks, he hasn't. Axel is nobody; he is no one, and what doesn't exist can't be seen.
He should have known there would be consequences for trying to scrape something more out of his chest, for trying to make something out of nothing. He'd thought he had done it; he'd thought he had created something of value. But obviously this fragile semblance of feeling, this fledgling love - the word has grown thorns - was so immaterial that Roxas has lost track of it somewhere along the way.
On what cold floor does it lie now, he wonders, deprived of both owner and creator?
And now, Axel realizes - as he stares into hostile, strangely foreign blue eyes - he has nobody. No, he has lost even that - he has nothing.
He has always had nothing; he knows this. He's just never cared before.
