Challenge: [197] Second Chance
Title: turn the page.
Word Count: 366.
Note: Naminé and Riku.
White pages.
When she rubs her eyes, that's all she can see--white pages.
She takes a break, standing up from the cold, soulless room and making her way downstairs. Her starry sandals click-clack against the floor, although she stops just before they get to the library. For a minute, she feels as if she's in Castle Oblivion again, just waiting for Larxene to appear. Naminé creaks open the door without a word, and walks down. It's obvious to DiZ where she is--and he looks up only once before ignoring her. Nobodies should not be seen, should not be heard. She's a little ghost of a girl, and as she walks towards the pod room, he knows who she's going to see.
After all, she's not the only one who needs a break.
Riku stands with his hand against the translucent petals of the pod. For once, his blindfold has lowered to be around his neck. Naminé arrives just in time to see him collapse and move to lay on his side. She approaches him slowly, and kneels in front of him, taking his head into her lap and gently stroking hair made of starshine.
"Naminé... when he doesn't forgive me, where should I go?"
She stops and looks down at him with bright blue eyes, and for a moment, his own widen--but they're not Sora's.
"He'll forgive you. I'm sure of it."
"He shouldn't."
The frown deepens on her face, and for a moment, she thinks about smacking him over the head like Kairi used to. "Riku, you're his best friend. You said you'd give everything to have him back."
"And that's still true, I just--"
"Then give him a chance to say 'I forgive you'. Don't make plans to run away."
Riku quiets and closes his eyes, she goes back to stroking his hair to calm him.
He doesn't know that she already has a time line of events. Of course Sora will forgive him.
The boy of twilight in her lap has turned into a blank slate. Sora knows this. He's tried so hard to redeem himself that he's done more than he ever needed. The ugly marks have been cleaned. He's...
White pages. It's really all she can see.
