Actually, in the other games Mickey comes off very much as the facilitator of events, both for the Destiny Island kids and to a lesser extent the Land of Departure crew. He always seems to be scouting out paths and figuring out intel for them, and especially in Dream Drop Distance it leads to him getting something that Yen Sid didn't.
Yen Sid does seem determined to underestimate Xehanort, though.
