Title: A whole new world
Challenge: Tragedy
Word: 284
Note: This is a special brand of crack-headed tragedy. Sorry. x_x
"Do you know what it's like, to lose your mind?" Riku doesn't know the man, doesn't know where he came from or where he is going, but he is beginning to get used to running into untraceable men with no past, no future. This place is dark forever, is Hollow and empty. He has heard the water echo off of the walls as it rises along them and runs up past the ceiling, twisting off into outer space. (Physics need not apply.)
"I'm not really sure," he says, turning to meet the man's eyes-- they are amber, bright like the sun, and he finds them enticing. They promise secrets. They tell him I know what you are seeking, and I know where to find it.
And he believes. He has believed since he first heard the ghost of a voice on the seabreeze. He has believed since he left behind their island at the end of the universe. That was their place; pristine, beautiful.
Nothing is beautiful anymore-- this man, white-haired and dark skinned and wearing the evil eyes of a dragon in its den, has taken everything that Riku ever held dear, and stripped its beauty away. Even discovery, travel, no longer holds meaning for him. Even Sora and Kairi are no longer anything but pretty puppets on string.
"Do I?" He asks, and looks up and wonders. "Do you know?"
The dragon smiles like the sun going supernova, like a pulsar fading, like a collapsing star turning into a black hole. There is something evil in it. "I can show you, Riku. Let me show you how to lose your mind."
Riku says 'no.' But it is far too late for that.
