Title: Role Model
Word Count: 299
Notes: One of these days, I'll write a drabble without Cloud in it. But today is not that day. XD;
At first, he thought they were just coming up with excuses to tease him. It began with Leon’s subtle hints that Sora seemed to have taken to watching him and then escalated into Yuffie’s fluttering eyelashes and overdramatic swooning motions.
It didn’t make sense, so of course Cloud thought they were misreading or exaggerating things. He was barely fit to be a role model, let alone…that. The receiving end of a one-sided crush. What really didn’t make sense to him was what people saw in him. Unfortunately, no one ever thought he meant this question seriously.
And Sora was just a kid, but Cloud could just imagine the indignant expression he’d get if he said that. There were people his own age, people he talked to Cloud about, and from the way he spoke, these were people he had very deep feelings for.
“He reminded me of someone,” was all Leon had said after they lost to him.
Of you.
Sometimes he couldn’t see it. Cloud had been one to believe that people wouldn’t let him down, least of all adults, and yes, he had been innocent – Do they sometimes miss that? – but he had been more serious, knowing loss like he knew his own bones.
But other times, when all he could hear was metal clashing in his ears and he was inches away from Sora’s face, teeth gritted, muscles aching, he saw a reflection of his own determination in Sora’s eyes. The only way either of them knew how to fall was forward.
The words he wanted to give didn’t always come easy. When he was behind Sora, showing him things, guiding his hand and keyblade in gentle, steady motions, he wished that he could simply press don’t make the same mistakes I did into his skin.
