Challenge - Nostalgia
Title - Word of the Day
Word Count - 359
Note - Takes place anytime within Hollow Bastion while stationed in the very large, omg-I-want-one-just-like-it library. :D
Goofy loves to read. Not many know this fact because, for lack of a better phrase, his actions oftentimes seem unintelligent when compared to those he’s associated with. He’s not stupid or uneducated, he just doesn’t tend to see things like most others do.
“No…nos…hey, Donald, what’s this word?” the lanky black dog asked, looking up from his book to eye his feathered friend.
The white duck huffed, looking away from his task of rearranging some brightly colored volumes on a nearby shelf to give him a stern glance.
“What are you reading for, Goofy? We’re supposed to be finding a way out of this library!”
The other merely shrugged, un-offended by his friend’s all-too-common scolding. He was far used to it by now, having put up with the likes of it for too many years to count. Shrugging, he tilted his prized reading material up so the other could see it, too.
“It’ll only take a second, honest.”
“Hey, what are you two doing?” Sora suddenly called down from up above; his two companions glanced up at him at the sound of his voice. At the sight of his new friend’s appearance, Goofy’s face brightened, and he held the book up in Sora’s direction as if he could see it from the next story up.
“This word; I want to know what it means.”
Tilting his head, the brunette strained to spot the small eight-point font from his height before shaking his head, deciding to just get it over with and hop down. One moment and he was beside his much taller friend, giving the marked spot a closer inspection.
“Nostalgia?”
As if in awe at Sora’s ability to pronounce the word, Goofy nodded hurriedly, intently listening to hear its meaning. Absently, Sora scratched his head, trying to recall if he really knew it.
“I think…it means, uh…something like…homesickness.”
Mulling over the words for a minute, Goofy eventually nodded, looking more serious in that moment than he had in all the time either Donald or Sora had known him. Well…as serious as someone of Goofy’s stature can look.
“Gawrsh…I think that we all have a little nostalgia, huh?”
