The twisted gates hung far above the silken void beyond
beckoned like a waiting grave as he shivered into being,
blood-fire mane shivering in the faintest breeze of unending dusk.
As vision cleared a flicker of sweet cynic's smile played across the bone-sharp cheeks,
burned as embers in the hell-jade eyes;
Was it not, after all, before another phantom gateway -- so to speak --
that he had dealt a flame-swift end to their errant frost-master?
But his empty spirit rose as a second shadow draped in velvet faded into view.
The silver-silent moon-dancer, come to greet him,
And bear the tidings of his most precious treachery to the darkness of their lord.
Between two hollow heartbeats, he lashed out with one gleaming fire-thorn ring --
To find his burning razor caught in a night-strong grip,
the moon-dancer's hand trailing thin tears of blackest crimson along the cruel blades.
He smiled an empty smile as the midnight hood fell slowly,
and the hollow king's favored gazed unmoving back with eyes of golden ice.
"One of these days, Saix, I'm going to make you flinch."
The ring is released with an impassive shrug, ichor fading to ink-dark motes;
and no concern nor flicker of emotion marred the the dancer's feathered brows
As he met the burning emerald gaze with night-soft certainty of words.
"One night soon enough, Axel, I am going to kill you."
