Title: Rules of a Heart
Word Count: 339
(anything else): Slight Organisation and Nobody spoilers. Nothing blatant (only one name mentioned). No true pairing.

A lot of fics lately have been centred on feelings, but I have my own theories about the relationship of hearts and feelings. They'd never lost the ability to feel.

Everyone said Nobodies didn't have hearts. It was true; they didn't. But it was questionable when they also said Nobodies couldn't feel.

The Keyblade Master, though he was a light to everyone, dismissed them, trashed them, because they didn't know emotion. So naïve he was to think that they didn't deserve their freedom or wholeness. Naïve to the point of being cruel. Sora, cruel? Never.

Yet still, day after day, the Nobodies wandered and searched. Together, they admitted to no faults or slips. But alone, they suffered. Alone, sometimes, they would trick themselves into thinking they could feel. But because they'd been told so many times that such a thing wasn't possible, they'd swallowed the thoughts and went on. Chugged on towards Kingdom Hearts, trusting the words of a madman to lead them back to their 'missing' feelings.

But they weren't imagining. Among them, two members had fallen in love. The leader desired. Two blondes enjoyed games, though one's version of fun was a bit harsher than mere gambling. Another despaired--he wasn't right for this job. A frail girl, locked away, was lonely. And it's almost laughable, really, that none of them stopped to see what was right in front of them.

They'd never lost the ability to feel.

It can be said that perhaps hearts do NOT hold emotion. Maybe our impressions are entirely wrong. Emotion may go hand in hand with being itself, not linked at all to hearts. Maybe the only purpose hearts hold is to be broken, broken like rules. Rules are made to be broken.

If this is true, all those 'poor' Nobodies have an advantage over Somebodies: They have no hearts to be broken. Their emotions could ravage freely, tearing paths of destruction through their own bodies, and they would never suffer consequences. Maybe a bout of sadness every now and then.

But they aren't perfection. Hearts are made to be broken. And breaking, after all, is just one step on the way to fixing.

I absolutely love this. KHII actually made me dislike Sora to what turned out to be a great extent because of how heartless (har har) he was towards the Nobodies.

Everyone - including the Nobodies themselves - says that Nobodies have no emotions. But I never believed that. And for me, my primary proof was Axel. And then there was always Roxas and Namine. While you could say that Roxas and Namine are special cases, you can't deny Axel's emotion. He truly feels. I always believed that.

I agree totally. Their hearts may be gone, but that doesn't strip them of their souls.

I love you for writing this.
