Title: Selfish
Word count: 285
Spoilers: Hollow Bastion in KH1
Characters: Keyblade (Yes, you read that correctly), Riku
Notes: This is a condensed and more serious version of another fic I have. That one, however, is 2,714 words and contains references to a more... shall we say epic fic of mine. So, here we are...
They know the Keyblade chooses its master.
The do not know, they do not even wonder how, or why.
I rest in Riku’s palm for the time being. I do not intend on staying there for long. The ruse that I have chosen him as my true master is merely a test, to prove the worth of Sora as my true master and of Donald and Goofy as his companions.
I can see into Riku’s heart, and I can see the envy foiling. Now, that envy is vindicated. He sees this as proof of his own worth, proof that he is more than the lapdog of an ancient witch, proof that he is special… proof that he is more special than Sora…
If only I could tell him. I daresay that I would enjoy the look on his face.
Sora and Riku both have powerful hearts. They are strong, they are capable of doing great things.
Potential is not all that matters.
In the belly of a great whale, Riku had taunted Sora, saying that he was too busy running around saving the world to care about what happened to him or Kairi.
And I could see, quite clearly, that if I had gone to Riku, worlds would have fallen into ruin where they might have been saved. Riku would have searched for Sora and Kairi, caring nothing for the fate of all worlds.
It is selfishness. No more or less than most people, but it was a taint in his heart that could not be ignored.
Riku wants to be the hero. He wants to wield me for his own purposes. He wants to be special.
And that is exactly why I rejected him.
