Sora lay, bathed in sweat, grief, and the liquid once pumping into his heart. His real heart.

Something had carried him off into his memories while the shells and shadows swarmed around him, eating away to get to their prize, the thing that made Sora special, so he had no time for regrets. Not that he wanted that time.

He was gazing off the pier. She walked into his line of vision, laughing, smiling. Genuinely. She was small, smaller than she was when he last saw her. He felt strangely like his body was out of his control.

"Isn't it great?" she exclaimed suddenly, holding out her hands while the setting sun engulfed her in rays of light, her shadow touching his bare feet as he stood three feet away. "The sunset means night is coming!"

"Why do you want night to come? It's just darkness. We can't play on the beach." Sora's words sounded muffled and crackly, like an old movie.

She turned to face Sora. She let her eye lids fall over her deep, aqua eyes and took a deep breath before curving her lips into a dreamy smile. "Sora... night gets us ready for the next day. Tomorrow," she said with an airy tone. "Tomorrow, we can play again until sunset. And after sunset, we can get excited for what we'll do the next day!"

"Yeah... you're right. Tomorrow, you, me and Riku can have even more fun. Right Kairi?"

Everything faded to white except for her as the uttering of her name echoed softly. The brightness was overwhelming, but Sora didn't open his eyes. He knew it was over.

At that moment, a shrill scream pierced the atmosphere. "SORA!"

She ran towards him, kicking the monsters out of her way and cradling him gently in her arms. They continued to run back to their prey after being torn away, and she kept repelling them. But soon, her vision was too clouded and she felt too weak in her knees to do anything else. She broke down, embracing him with all her might. "Sora... no..."

Sora's eye lids opened sleepily and his glazed over eyes looked at her one last time.

"Kairi... we'll be together..."

She looked at him with eyes of such shock. "Sora, Sora, you're al-"

"Tomorrow..." Sora smiled her same, dreamy smile as he let darkness fill his mind.

And just before he slipped away, he heard her voice: choking, saddened, but nonetheless commanding.

"Wait for me."
