Title: Every Victory Has Its Price
Words: 259
Notes: This takes place only a few days after Kingdom Hearts II, but has mostly in-game ability spoilers. I hope you all enjoy.
It’s been a year now, but Sora still remembers his first time. The first time that the shadows enveloped him, had replaced one of his friends as drive partner. He remembers the power that he had felt then. He had been unto a god almost, slaughtering hordes of Heartless and Nobodies with but a swipe of his hand.
The euphoria had been exhilarating. Never before had he felt so in control, so above all life. By his will alone did others live, by his will did they die. He had routed the enemy with but a thought, charging into them like a bull and shattering them like porcelain.
Yet he remembers all too well how, when the enemy was gone he had seen his friends through the eyes of a Heartless. Had seen their blue bodies in a black and white world, their white hearts a beacon of sustenance. He had to fight himself then, fight the animalistic desire to feed on the light and spread the power of darkness.
When he had conquered that side of himself he had returned to his true form. But the memory still remained. Whenever he happened to turn into his antithesis, he had control over it. Yet the memory of that temptation, of using tremendous power for evil purposes remained.
As he finishes the recount, Sora looks back at Riku. The older boy is shocked, quiet as his friends says, “So yeah, I do understand. I know how powerful that temptation is. And I know how corrupting it can be as well.”
