Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Title: Magic Lessons-Part 4 of 5
Words: 531
Characters: Sora, Kairi and voice-in-the-head!Namine (hah, you thought I was going to say Roxas again, didn't you?)
Notes: Rated G, pretty much. I think I wrote Kairi better in part 1.

A magic duel could be interesting and it was a good way to practice the spells one was learning. It could also provide a good reason one should avoid using a weapon that could cast a spell. Kairi would learn this the hard way. She knew Sora hadn't heard what spell she was casting. It hadn't seemed like a problem. Then he cast Reflect in response.

'Uh-oh.' Her sudden surprise and desire to stop his spell had prompted a response from the staff Sora had bought for her. It cast its spell, Silence, just after Sora's Reflect faded. It struck him at the same time that Kairi's reflected spell struck her. She had sort of expected that it might hurt, being a transforming spell, but it didn't. It was just a bit disorienting and confusing. Thankfully, she wasn't totally uninformed. She'd been hit with the spell once when she'd learned it.

However, she really didn't want Sora to see her like this. While he was trying to figure out how he'd still been hit with a spell, she ran, thankful that they'd had this little duel in the cove. There were plenty of places to hide and no one else could see what had happened. Someone else could still tease her, though she didn't really know if Naminé would.

Why would I tease you?

'I got hit with my own Pig spell. Why not?'

It's an honest mistake. Now, Roxas might tease you, if he knew.

'I didn't need that.'

Approaching footsteps drew Kairi's attention and for a moment she thought that Sora might have seen her anyway. However, when he parted the bushes she hid in, the look on his face said nothing to that effect. Actually, he seemed to be having some kind of internal argument. What might Roxas have been saying to him? Whatever it was, it didn't seem to sit well. He paused for a moment, looking miffed if nothing else. She didn't expect him say anything, as he couldn't say anything at the moment. Sort of. In his surprise at whatever Roxas might have said, he mouthed something. Kairi realized he'd said her name. Then he slumped. She felt like doing the same. Neither of them could speak, so neither of them could cast a spell that would return them to normal and she doubted he had any items that might help.

Sora put a hand to his face with a huff. He seemed a little distracted. Maybe 'frazzled' was a better word. With a small sigh, Kairi nudged him, wondering what they could possibly do now. He probably wished he had a camera and she was thankful he didn't have one and... and what was with that wicked little grin on his face?

Maybe he's wondering what Riku would say to this?

'Naminé!' That was not comforting. Kairi didn't want to know what Riku would say. She started to edge away and then turned to run, but Sora caught her and held on to her. That was easy enough for him. She was no bigger than a small dog now. That look on his face was just this side of evil and way too smug.

Cute! I love this little serial. And you've got Namine just about right, I'd say. Very nice.
