Apr. 26th, 2007 10:28 pmTitle: A True Friend
Challenge: 103 Desire
Word Count: 277
Spoilers: So long as you've finished either KH1/KH2's Atlantica or seen the Little Mermaid, you should be in the clear.
Ariel swished about her grotto, looking for something to stump him. Donald, Goofy, and Sebastian weren’t around to stop him from slipping up, and she just knew he was close to the breaking point.
“And then there’s this one – Scuttle said it’s called a Dinglehopper, and that humans use it to style their hair.” She snatched a handful of her volumous locks and ran the metal prongs vigorously through it.
“Dingelhopper?” Sora said, scrunching up his face quizzically. “But that’s…so – so rare around these parts.” His face stretched to contain the compensating grin.
Only a great deal of effort stopped her from pursing her lips in vexation. “Yeah. I’m lucky I found it.”
Discreetly, she tucked it away.
“Sora – friends should always be honest with each other, right?”
“Of course!”
“And they’d help each other to reach their dreams.”
“Uh-huh!” Sora added emphatically. “If they’re a real friend, they’d do anything for each other.”
“Even if Daddy didn’t want you to?”
“Even then.”
He just floated there, smiling warmly. A hot anger bubbled in her chest.
“I should go. There’s this ceremony thing - I can’t miss it.”
With a swoosh of her tail, she left the cluttered cove. Sora wasn’t fast enough to catch up.
But he was fast to lie.
He knew what she wanted. He and his friends had the power to get her there, but they wouldn’t do it. They would play dumb, trying to make the monotony of Atlantica seem exciting with fake smiles and exaggerated laughter. As if they knew what was best for her.
Sora was her friend, but he wasn’t on her side. Perhaps someone less amicable would be.
