When Riku looked at Kairi, he couldn’t help but notice how attractive she was, or had gotten in their absence. He skimmed his eyes down her smooth legs and over her silky reddish hair, and smiled when she was calm and happy and at how she always knew exactly what to say.
He could have had her. It was possible that his rescue of her didn’t go entirely as planned and yet he did save her when Sora did not, but still she had more affections for Sora than Riku, or so he thought. Before that, he could have, might have, had her.
And what of Namine? Why, with all the time he’d spent obsessing over her in Castle Oblivion, all the time she’d spent with his replica...who knew? Maybe she could develop a soft spot for him, like a soft white flower opening its soft yellow insides to the sun.
Hell, there were pretty girls on every world, girls with long hair or cute freckles or shapely curves in their bodies. There were girls who would pay in organs to spend time with someone so handsome as Riku. Some among them might even grow to understand him and the twisted, tangled web his personality had become.
It’s funny, he thought, watching the constant swell of the waves against the shore. He remembered all the lovely belles and lasses he’d encountered, and imagined those he’d yet to meet, and thought of the ones he saw every day. It’s very funny, he thought, and smiled in spite of himself, that he passed these maidens on in favour of a goofy, gangly boy with messy brown hair and too-innocent sapphire eyes.
