Title: Between Sky and Earth
Word Count: 297.
Other: Not much.
Sometimes, he stands in the middle of the bay, thinking. He doesn’t mind how the water sinks into his shoes, or how his waders flood, or that he’ll feel soggy for a while afterwards. He’s got better things to dwell on.
He wonders if there is anything else out there.
Once upon a time, he used to believe was there nothing but sky and earth. There was no space between, no gap. Just eternal sky, brushing to meet sea. He feels trapped between them, squashed, like the sand beneath his shoes and the missing piece of his heart.
He lusts to see more, feel more.
For now, the sky’s wind and the ocean’s rocking waves are his cradle, embracing him and holding him in one place. He is laced between them, as always, grounded yet flying, stuck in the middle.
But now, he sees a gap. There is a light at the end of the dark tunnel, reaching out of grasp his attention, beckoning him forwards. Maybe there is more out there - a small slot between sky and sea, a black hole, of sorts. Maybe, if he reaches out and touches it, and taps into its power, he can see other worlds.
Just maybe, that will lead to new places. New sights and scenes, touch new skies and soar through new lands. A new place where he can seek high adventure, meet new people. Escape boring, everyday life. Do something important in life. He’s tired, trapped in this terrible vice between land and sky, tied between them and enslaved to it. It is his prison, and his cage, an endless sea of heavenly blue skies and crystal waters, surrounding a tiny group of islands. He wants to get away.
He wants to reach out and grab that freedom.
He wants to escape.
