Challenge: 186 - Black and White
Title: Eyes
Word Count: 316
Summary: It bothered her that Sora couldn’t see how different he was.

Sora greeted her with the same smile, that charming, toothy grin he had possessed before the islands had been overcome by darkness.

But it wasn’t his smile that bothered her. It was his eyes that had changed.

Where once shined a bright, inquisitive simplicity now lurked something darker. They were still as blue as the azure waves that lapped against the shores of the tiny island that had shackled his innocence for so long, but his expression had narrowed, grown suspicious. She sensed something indiscernible, not quite evil… but certainly far from the wide-eyed purity they had held during a time when he still dreamed of falling stars and fairy rhymes.

It probably wouldn’t have troubled her so much if he didn’t try to treat her with the same naiveté he had lost over two years ago. Sora refused to speak of the details of his adventures, as if she weren’t strong enough to withstand the horrors.

“It doesn’t matter, Kairi,” he told her one day, that ridiculous smile shining bright and incongruously across an otherwise gloomy visage. “I found you and Riku. That’s what’s important.”

Oftentimes she wondered if Sora noticed the twinges of black she could sense lurking in his heart, if he was even aware of how much more he had in common with Riku these days. Sometimes she would find them alone by the paopu tree, talking about their adventures, sharing in a comradery they wouldn’t allow her to understand.

Kairi remembered the blithe days when their greatest worry was the childish notion of who would share a paopu with her.

She doubted they cared anymore.

That Sora was gone forever, replaced by this corrupted thing. This was not the person she knew. Kairi remembered a happy, carefree Sora whose white light and insatiable curiosity outshone even the blackest evil on the fringes of the universe.

And she wanted that boy back.

Bawwww!
Oh god baww!
That was so baww. xD I enjoyed this one a lot too! This week's just great. I liked the thought that she can see that in him. Riku's always the one who everyone mentions being darker than he was before, more affected by it, but Sora must have been really changed too. :3 I liked this one.

OH MY GOD I THINK I LOVE YOU.

I mean, THIS. So damn yesyesyes! I don't know how people make Sora out to be totally innocent and naive without any clue of what's going on and making him feel like he's been totally right in what he did without any doubts after. They so under-estimate him. I think Sora is not especially a deep thinker, but a deep feeler, and people underestimate this. Sora has changed a lot, if the conversation he shared with Riku at the end ('maybe we're the darkness too') is anything to go for.

That drabble is lovely ♥♥ Memming!

This is just stunning. I love how aware Kairi is of everything that's happened, and the contrast between that and the denial Sora seems to be in about her ability to get it. I can completely see him trying to dismiss her concern like that, and he probably would relate to Riku more by the end of it all.

And you mentioned the paopu; been quite a while since I've seen that crop up anywhere (it used to be so prevalent, too; my, how things change, even in the fandom!).

Love this!

This is lovely. I have a weakspot for the trio being a little jaded after their adventures, I won't lie. Sora's emphatic it doesn't matter makes it even harder, wah. Smart choice with the perspective, too. I think Kairi would notice things others wouldn't; she's close enough to her boys to know them, but was distanced enough to be less affected.
