Title: Definition of Thunder and Wind
Word Count: 450
Notes: I honestly wish there were more scenes anywhere with Fuu and Rai, because I want to wiggle into their heads so bad, I swear. I have no idea if I got the guy's voice right. D8 Although the funny thing that it has been thundering a bit and a little windy around where I live, so maybe this is a sign?




Yo! Think ya could keep a secret?

...Sometimes, I ain't too fond a' Fuu.

I don't mean to be, y'know? Do y'think Seifer would punch me square in the mouth if I said that out loud? Like, with words? I think he would, cuz Fuu's, like, his second in command. It ain't me, and it ain't Vivi, and Seifer always tells Fuu anythin' we're gonna do today. His vice, or whatever, y'know?

Man, that ain't even the half of it. I don't really care too much about thinkin' and orderin' people around, right, so it just isn't that vice stuff. I know people think I'm stupid, and maybe I am, dunno. Still, guy can't help but notice stuff after a while, see? Nobody never thinks Fuu's stupid, even tho' she talks a lil' funny, and they even understand her. Me? I ain't hardly ever sure if anyone understands a word comin' out of my mouth, so I always have to make sure, y'know?

But I could deal with all a' that. Nothin' new. Lotsa people are smarter than me.

But can you tell what Fuu's ever feelin'?

Seriously, nobody got a better... What was the word again? Man, I just had it, too... Goldfish? Hearts? Crazy 8s? Um... Oh yeah! Poker. Nobody has a better poker face than Fuu. Enough to drive a guy a lil' crazy, right? I don't really like it when I can't tell what a person's thinkin', cuz that usually helps when I don't know what they're sayin'. Even Seifer says that if anyone wanted to rob a bank or somethin', they could count on Fuu to keep it a secret, or just do everythin' right.

(Not that she would. Twilight Town Disciplinary Committee aren't a bunch a lowlifes, y'know?)

So yeah. I can't hold a candle to Fuu.

...Yo? Think you could keep another secret?

Once, Vivi had this name book, an' he said 'Fuu' means 'wind' and 'Rai' means 'thunder'. Maybe I really should take up this readin' thing, y'know? Cuz the book's spot on. I guess I'm just supposed to be loud and open and stuff. And words and her expression aren't what you're supposed to look at with Fuu.

Whenever it's windy, she always shoves Vivi's hat back down on his head. Whenever Seifer always feels pissed at havin' no parents, she always says we should spar for the next tourn. And me? She'll kick me just as often as looking at me cuz I'll say somethin' stupid, but after a fight, I'm always the first guy she looks to with the kit, and we ain't never left each other's side.

Smart, strong, and no one can read her poker face.
Man, that's a girl worth fightin' for....

First of all; much love for not abusing the "y'know" thing.
Second of all: I love the way you wrote Rai and how he wasn't the most eloquent character. The part where he was trying to remember the term poker face made me smile and I think you got his and Fuu's relationship spot on!

Awesome. I love how this is really colloquial but it still totally works. Kind of reminds me of a Holden Caulfield sort of narration. I love how introspective Rai is and how he completely understands the situation, yet somehow writes himself off as unintelligent. Love the characterization here.

I know how you feel about abusing catchphrases, it's a peeve of mine too. ^^ Besides, while I figure that Rai doesn't have the biggest vocab of the KH cast, he isn't some parrot who just says the same thing over and over again.
....Or it could just be my pet peeve. |D
Besides, I have a beta working on me on another, multichapter fic, and she helped me get over using one word over and over, so now I'm always picky about overusing things, or at least I try to be, heh.

I barely expected myself to write this, ha! Especially as Rai isn't exactly one of my muse regulars. (Zexion, get the hell out of my kitchen. D8< ) Still, I was thinking randomly about the prompt while out and about, and suddenly this hit me right in the face, and I knew I just had to write it. ^^

Thank you very much! Like I already said in another comment, this is my first time writing Rai, let alone in first person, so I'm really glad that this came out right.

I always figured that people write themselves off as being a little less then they really are, so even though Rai notices things sometimes, he doesn't think much of doing so. Kind of like a Goofy thing, where he might be stupid, but he doesn't get distracted by all the other stuff, and just notices things, sometimes. Out of the mouth of the lambs, I guess? Ignore me, I'm babbling in the morning, bad habit. |D

Anyway, don't worry about it, I've almost done the same thing a few times. ._.;
