The banner said Happy Birthday.
The people sang Happy Birthday.
There were gifts and laughter
But the happiness was fake
One gift made his heart twinge. Ocean green wrapping with a pretty silver bow. A sigh escaped before it was covered with a smile and laugh.
The door opened, the boy turned and-
