I LOVE YOU FOREVER.

I have a poster of the Gashlycrumb Tinies on my dorm wall right now. I was always very preoccupied with Rhoda (consumed by a fire) when I was a toddler. So much so that my parents had to put it in the basement because they were creeped out.
So, naturally, it was the going-away-to-college present. XD

But just. I love you. So hard. In case you still had any doubts.

i'm sorry, but the mods have decided that your entry stretches the rules too far and needs to be disqualified from the challenge. :/ there's two things - one, even though the entry is written in your own words, it's close enough to the original that we don't feel comfortable including it in the contest. and two, it's more of an abc list than either a poem or a drabble, and not really in the spirit of the community. as a non-challenge entry, it's fine.

you can message us if you have more questions, or respond here. thanks.

essentially, we feel that you would be judged on mr. gorey's work, not your own; the entire format and idea of everything in your piece is directly taken from his book.

i realise that it's a very fine line, and i appreciate that you've spent a lot of time and effort on this piece; it's a sweet and amusing tribute to mr. gorey. however, since this community is a competition, even if a casual one, none of us felt comfortable including it.

that's the main reason - in addition, it's also just an abc list of deaths, and doesn't seem to have any underlying story behind it. 'drabble' has yet to be defined in our rules, so if this was the only reservation we had, we'd let it pass. :/

we'll attempt to clarify the new rule on usage of other written work shortly; i'm sorry if it was misleading.

Okay, I want to state my opinion on this.
The reasons for it being disqualified don't seem to me to be valid.
The only thing taken from the original was the format, and more being taken has been let through before.
To me, it doesn't seem to be just an ABC list. It's a list of last sentences of drabbles, and if you look deeper you can see the story behind each sentence. I can hear the full story in the short sentence, and it isn't easy to get that.
In short, I'm not challenging the Mod's right to disqualify. I want to say what I think about their decision, because I don't like holding opinions inside unless absolutely necessary.

Recent rules have been added to keep copyrighted text from drabbles, since we're trying to keep the community as original as possible. A rhyming alphabetical list of deaths/ends is a borrowed idea. Not only the format, but a few of the lines are also worrisomely close to the original. We'll be archiving the piece in our misc drabbles, of course, because it's very enjoyable. <3

If you read this as 'a list of last sentences of drabbles', isn't that still a list? A story behind each sentence means twenty-six stories, all a few words long. The story that's missing, and what makes this a list instead of a drabble, in our opinion, is how all these little stories come together. Though, as was said, if this were our only concern, we'd have let it be.

I do understand your opinion, though. As always, if you have any further concerns, please feel free to email/message any of us. <3
