Challenge: [215] Begin at the End
Title: Just Because
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: For the end of KH2
Rating/Warnings: PG
Notes: Riku and Sora; musings on the black beach.
Riku had lost himself in reverie quite a while ago, and the silence had stretched and covered them like that fuzzy old camp blanket Kairi snuck out of her house. Warm, familiar and comforting, but Sora poked his head out from beneath to smile.
“He was wrong, you know.”
“Who,” Riku asked, “about what?”
“Xemnas.” Sora nodded once, and smiled cheerfully. “Nothing doesn’t go on forever. It can’t- because we exist.”
They did, and the black beach did, the moon and the waves. Sora was right, and Riku smiled.
“There is one thing that goes on forever, though.”
“Yeah?”
He should have known better than to ask. He knew, when Sora’s grin turned as evil as it ever had before Riku looked down and found his waders filled with the bananas they’d collected for lunch, or live fish, or sand-
“This is the song that never ends-”
Riku blinked, and managed to keep a straight face. “Sora. Don’t sing that.”
“It just goes on and on, my friend!”
“Seriously-”
“Some people, started singing it, not knowing what it was-”
Sora. My best friend, Riku thought as he groaned loudly and tried not to laugh.
So good to have him back.
