Challenge 216 - Once Upon A Time
Feb. 6th, 2010 10:33 pmChallege - Once Upon A Time
Title - Endings
Word Count - 224
Notes - I think I took the prompt in a bit of a darker direction...thoughts? No spoilers, unless KHI is unfamilar to you.
Riku had never been one for fairy tales.
Adventure, oh yes, he craved adventure. But princesses and dragons and knights in shining armor? There were better things, he had long decided.
Better things, like the horizon that shone so brilliantly and was so tantalizingly out of his reach. Better things, like beginnings that would create whatever dream and desire he could fathom.
Beginnings that opened doors. Beginnings that would lend opportunity. Beginnings that led to life and love and power all things good in the world. Beginnings that started with "Once upon a time."
And once upon a time would lead to happily ever after.
The night is as dark as the blindfold that covers his eyes, wet as the rain that pitter-patters against the skyscraper, lighted with pinpricks of unseen starlight as bright as the blades that flash a hundred feet below him...
There is a small voice, buried deep beneath the whisper of black robes and clink of silver and tastes of guilt and determination and darkness; a small, hesitant voice that wonders.
Moments before he leaps into oblivion, he wonders how his story could ever end in "happily ever after."
Because all he can see is Sora's horrified and confused face, spiked hair blowing in the storm that claimed the islands, and remember that once upon a time, he made an unforgivable mistake.

Date: 2010-02-07 07:45 pm (UTC)I tend to write with more of a darker style, no matter what the prompt is...eventually I'll write something a little more light-hearted, haha.
