Challenge: 216 - Once Upon a Time
Title: One Sky

Once upon a time, there was a sky of worlds.

This vast universe was throbbing with life -- of children who romped about in blissful innocence and adults who talked and laughed with their friends; of living people who breathed and saw and felt.

Then, somewhere among these many worlds, a door opened.

And there was war.

At one point, there was a Dark City.

It was incomplete; its edges broke and fell away, corroded with time, and the gap in its center was never filled. Among the buildings walked a number of empty shells. They were searching for that last puzzle piece, that vital part of them that had been stolen without warning in order to become whole again and they were willing to do anything, absolutely anything to get it back.

This world did not pulse with life.

And it was running out of time.

One day, a boy found a door.

That changed everything.

In this boy's hands, he held a key; in this boy's heart, burned a brilliant light. Together with his friends, he fought the darkness. Worlds were returned, Heartless killed and Nobodies vanquished. The Dark City collapsed, brought down with a mighty swing of the Keyblade, and ebbed away into nothingness.

Then there was peace.

Once upon a time, there was an endless sky of worlds, filled with life.

Now, it has changed. It has seen and suffered death -- war, ruin, pain, despair, death -- and its people can never forget this part of history; it has been scorched into their memories, to last forever as a reminder of what can and used to be.

But there is still life, and so, there is still hope.

And the sky remains.
