xelioth Written to, and title borrowed from, Here. I suggest listening to this as you read ♥
It is not a simple task, finding a master for the darkness. It takes months, years in some cases, of careful study of various subjects before he makes a decision.
One must have a certain level of intelligence, a certain hunger for the greater unknown. One must be prepared to embrace the unexpected, to take the darkness by the teeth and not shy away from it. He will test them, you see, to make sure they are able to wield it on their own. It must seem like a natural decision to the subject.
He will not cajole or bully. He will show up unexpectedly, befriend the subject, get to know them before he even introduces the element of darkness to them beyond idle chatter. Then he will act as surprised as they at the heartless as he cuts it down, explaining the danger, touching upon the edge of the power- flashes a sideways glance and warns the subject of the barely restrained terror they just witnessed. Entice the subject, make them want it, make them crave the darkness without even realizing it.
Then he will step back as the subject gives in to what they felt was the inevitable. He watches with wide-eyes, mild dismay, and a strong worded vow to stop them, to fight back the power of darkness. The subject, ever foolish, will view him as the idiot, the one who was too weak to take the power for himself.
His secret will be safe. Mickey grins triumphantly to himself.
