[MOD] IMPORTANT; Change in style of picking winners

Okay, we're going to try a new system in picking the winner. The challenger's importance in picking the winner isn't undermined, however, and we're just going to try it for two weeks, ie, two challenges. At the end of the two weeks, I'll post up a poll asking people whether you guys want the new system, or the old one.

ATTN: We'll be implementing this after the winner of Challenge [030] is chosen. So Challenge [029] and [030] will run as per usual, challenger picks the winner.

what does the poll look like?

Basically, the poll would be like that.

then when does the challenge end?

We will end the challenge on the day the challenger announces. As in, if the challenger announces that the challenge would end on the 13th of August, there should be no more entries on the 13th. So if it's 13th of August on your side, the challenge is over.

how do we pick?

Out of all the entries in the current challenge, you can pick your top three favourites whom you want to win. It goes like this:

FIRST (1st) Choice: 3 points
SECOND (2nd) Choice: 2 points
THIRD (3rd) Choice: 1 point

You have to pick three entries. All three entries MUST be different. Write in the text box provided the AUTHOR'S USERNAME: DRABBLE TITLE

then what's the challenger's box for?

The Challenger's box is for the Challenger ONLY. The current challenger DOES NOT need to pick three entries, s/he picks the one that s/he likes most (a.k.a, if there was no poll, s/he'll be picking the next winner), and the drabble s/he picks will be awarded FIVE (5) POINTS.

so how is the eventual winner picked?

On the next day after the poll is posted, the mod will calculate all the points, and then we'll post the winner (who has the most points) IN THE SAME POST. Of course, we'll also inform the winner that s/he has won and is free to pick the next topic.

when do we start with this new system?

We'll start at Drabble Challenge [031]. We're currently now at Challenge [029], so there will be one more challenge using the old system. At [031] and [032] we will try the new system, and after the end of [032] we'll let you decide if you want poll-style or old-style.

anything else?

If during the course of trying out the new system we find that there's blatant biasness going around instead of picking drabbles on merit, or the system's screwed up in some way or another, we'll go back to the old system.

Alright, so if I understand correctly (please forgive me):

- Voters use the poll to give points to stories.
- The story gets the most points wins the challenge.
- Challenger gets extra sway in voting. :)

I like the system, but should the voting period really only be a day?

Most icon contests also have it for a day as well, but because we don't have a set day for which challenges are concluded and announced (we used to leave it up to the challengers to be on time but obviously, that was a stupid idea as things got delayed and deadlines got delayed and if you noticed, our challenges and our next challenges are becoming more "on time" because the mods have been pinging people the moment we know it's judgement day and who has won), this might be a little difficult for the first challenge.

So we have the second to see if audience participation is any better on one day (and it's not really...one day, if you calculate time zones and all that, it's really two days, or at least one and a half) because we don't want to delay results. You, as a member of the community, should have been following up on the entries as much as a challenger does (which we suspect, is part of the delay because the challenger didn't even bother to read the entries until the very last minute).
