Originally, this is for the Kodak Moment challenge, but it got horribly out of hand and deviated away from the topic at hand, so I'm not entering this one for the challenge. I would, however, like to hear any comments about this, if there are any. :D
Challenge: Kodak Moment
Title: Moments Like These
Word Count: 245
Notes: They're at the bottom. Don't read them first until you read the drabble, then I'll explain. Otherwise, I think the effect will be ruined.
In moments like these, it seemed like the days spent fighting were all just bad dreams. The Heartless, Ansem, Keyblades, worlds, the giant mouse-king, everything was just a figment of an overactive and fevered imagination. Still, it didn’t stop him from feeling so nervous at night.
Sora lying beside him, softly snoring, arm on a half-exposed stomach… that felt real. He sighed, shifting and reaching out to take Sora’s hand, pulling it towards him. He hoped he wouldn’t wake Sora up, touching the back of his warm hand to his cheek.
“Snnk…Riku?”
He forgot that those imaginary years made Sora an extremely light sleeper. Immediately, he let go of his hand, feeling almost shy.
“Sorry for waking you.”
“’S okay…”
Those wide blue eyes were closing again, giving in to sleep, and impulsively he wrapped his arms around Sora, placing his head on that warm chest, feeling and hearing the steady beat of his heart. Painfully knowing that there was no echo of his own.
“Riku?”
“You’re here…and I’m here, right?” He could see the contrast between their skin, Sora’s dark and normal, and his pale and glowing like the moon. Sora’s fingers were running through his hair. "I'm real, aren't I?"
Sora’s magic was running under his skin, keeping him awake, keeping him alive.
“We’ll go back to Destiny Islands,” Sora whispered. “Somehow, I’ll bring you back.”
In moments like these, he could almost forget that he was nothing but just a spirit, trapped in a magic stone that lay next to Sora’s heart.
Notes
Firstly, this is quite possibly an AU (alternate universe). :D Ha! Solves the confusion problem!
...Not.
Okay, if you're confused, I'm actually talking about Riku being a summon gem. Technically, I don't think that the above scenario is possible because this is set post-KH, but we know at the end of Kingdom Hearts, Destiny Islands does get restored. And according to the Fairy Godmother, when all worlds are restored, all the spirits will return (cross-reference to the comment in which FG talks about the Simba Summon Gem). Unless the stones get restored once they're brought back to their worlds, which will work for my idea here. ^__^;;;
misskalloway's written fics of this idea too, by the way.
Any comments?
