challenge; [40] Hidden
title; Hide and Go Seek
word count; 275
additional notes; Platonic Leon and Yuffie relationship. Yei, go me.
Leon hated it when Yuffie played hide-and-go-seek. Being small of frame and young (hence meaning she's damn flexible and can squeeze herself in the oddest of places), it normally took hours to find her. Back in Hollow Bastion, it was easier because there were servants, other people, and in comparison, Hollow Bastion was just a building. A large building, but a building nonetheless. Traverse Town was a town, and it was a town filled with Heartless. It wasn't that Leon doubted Yuffie's skill in protecting herself, but in this weather...
The grey anorak was wet and plastered against his skin, more hindrance than help, the little lamp in his hand long gone out in the rain. He could hear Aerith's and Cid's voices calling out amidst the thunder, but he kept his mouth shut, grimly and systematically combing through the second district.
Yuffie would have to be out Heartless-hunting when the storm hit. But he couldn't really blame her, not when he finally found her, cowering behind a mountain of empty boxes, her normally huge eyes squeezed shut, her hands cupped tight on her ears and her beloved shurikens scattered around her like some magic circle, wet and probably even beginning to rust in the rain. Even in the rain he could tell that she was crying.
“Yuffie.” He reached out to her with both hands, not even resisting when her eyes flew open and she was sobbing, “Squall,” like she was eight all over again, clinging tight to him even though they were both wet and cold.
“It's okay,” he said, not even bothering to correct her, feeling relief flow through him, “It's okay. I've found you.”
