Title: Nightly Visits
Challenge: [43] Infatuation
Word Count: 244
Notes: My first drabble in this community. Hinted shounen-ai, Cloud/Leon. Cloud comes to terms with hisslight infatuation with the Ice Prince.
He had always enjoyed watching Leon sleep.
Call it an infatuation, if you would, a fetish that he had picked up as a child but had never been able to shake off.
There was something about Leon’s slumbering form – the lack of that piercing, icy gray glare, the calm, warm interior that had melted away the Ice Prince’s frozen mask and left it shattered and forgotten to a peaceful façade – that drew him into his room on a nightly basis.
It hadn’t started out like this. No, a trip every other week, or once each week, perhaps, if he were lucky enough to be passing by the doorway on his way to his own room and notice that the man had already drifted off long beforehand.
But, somehow, time had morphed this, the night trips becoming more and more frequent, until it was something that he was sure he couldn’t live without.
A fetish.
An obsession.
An infatuation.
He didn’t really care. He even forgot to worry about the risk of Leon awakening, after a while.
It was worth it. Worth those few moments of happiness where he could just sit, eyes locked on Leon’s tranquil features, fingers curled through chestnut hair and golden claws wrapped around Leon’s hand, their grips laced together like pieces of a complex puzzle.
No one needed to know of these silent, nightly trips and this private infatuation. It was his secret.
Their secret.
Even if Leon didn’t know.

Date: 2005-12-04 09:54 am (UTC)This piece is, as the other reviewers before me have mentioned, quite the anomaly; an evocation of intense, all-consuming, obsession, that is neither threatening, nor unhinged, and which leaves the reader with a deep sense of Cloud's unspoken affection. The fact that this was a gradual development, a slowly-acquired habit that surprised even him, lends a realism to the situation that is supported ably by Cloud's frequent attempts to justify his behaviour, the latter of which is also typical of the insecurity associated with his character.
I hope to read more of your work in the future. ^
