Characters: Zexion.
Spoilers: References some plot developments in Chain of Memories, Reverse-Rebirth.
Notes: No one likes having their metaphorical toes stepped on; some just have different plans for dealing with the intrusion. (Also, apologies to T. S. Eliot. for borrowing a line of verse ..)
Dreams and Ash
Mist-dark and soothing-still it was, in the dimness of the great catacombs below,
well-suited to the dim desires of the slender figure wrapped in night-dark velvet
who paced with death-silent surety through the empty chambers.
Slender fingers brushed through a fore-lock of deadened silver with measured impatience.
Once more the brilliant death-bringing crudeness of the new-unborn
had tried to wound him for his quiet;
spinner of phantoms that he was, he thought them crude, and spoke as such.
What need had he of their blood-soul flame, their death-bright thunder?
A child's amusements, fit for the children amongst their kind.
His was the subtler path. Where was the point of brutish conflict
when one could weave entire worlds anew?
Remake what the eyes can see, the soul accept?
This, this is the sharp edge that brought bitter bile to the dream-forger's slender throat.
The witch must die. A threat to his domain; and the flower-prince's pet.
It would not do.
Their hollow king wrought folly, and thus it fell
to dreaming phantasm and unyielding earth, eternally opposed, to end
the maddened ambition of a withered rose.
I do not require a soul-wrought weapon
to be your executioner.
I will bring you to a hell of your own making;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Date: 2005-12-02 04:52 pm (UTC)Zexion is one of those characters that had been chewing at the back of my head since I picked up CoM; there was something about him, but nothing I could beat into actual words. His apparent lack of an 'elementality' was also annoying; I've seen suggestions of "psychic" or "shapeshifting", but they didn't fit well.
I love his bitterness, though, and his hints that the Order ran more smoothly, once.
Inspiration came when I realized that illusion / phantasm / non-reality ("maboroshi") was viewed as a 'power' as well as a concept; and it all fell into place ^_^ Even his assocaition with Lexaeus .. illusion of phantasm and reality of earth are paired sometimes, so why not here?
.. gaah, look at me babble -- not hard to tell I like this character XD

Date: 2005-12-03 06:52 am (UTC)I need to write about Lexaeus sometime soonish. But he's so quiet in my head, curse him .. *shakes fist*
I also wonder what the trio's relationship -- if any -- may have been with Xaldin and Xighar ... alas, there's little to no information about those two as of yet.
(Although I did have Xaldin speak up in the drabble I posted for the current challenge. I thought he would ^_^ )
