Title: Purple Carnival.
Words: 431 (I know, long! I’m sorry! I was originally going to make it into three parts. But I was thinking about this in bed a few nights ago and by the time I got it onto paper part one and two kinda mixed and parts from them got deleted and such...)
Characters/Pairings: RikuxSora
Rating: PG
Notes: Take’s place when they’re very young probably around five or six, a year before Kairi comes into the picture. Destiny Island is more populated than the game lets on.
Fun Facts: In band, we’re playing a Song called the Purple Carnival. That’s kinda where I got the idea. :D Is it obvious I’m on a band hike? X3

Once a year, the Purple Carnival would come around to Destiny Island. This was Riku’s favorite night of the year; he loved going on the rides, eating the food, playing the games, and gazing at the bright lights. Riku’s main reason for loving this night was because each year Sora watched the fireworks with him from the Ferris Wheel.

Tonight, Riku was going to do something very daring.

Riku smiled as his best friend sat down across from him in their Ferris Wheel compartment. This was a tradition they had been doing ever since they could remember… Finally, he built up the courage to take the younger boy’s gaze from the fireworks and speak up.

“Sora?”

“Yeah, Riku?”

“Might I... try something?” Riku asked, curiously.

“What’s that?”

“Could I kiss you?”

Sora laughed merrily and shook his head at his friend. “Nooo! Riku! Boys don’t kiss! Boys and girls kiss–And even then I don’t think that’s right. Why would they wanna do that?”

Riku blinked and shook his head disappointedly; he should have known Sora was still much to young to understand. Hell, Riku wasn’t quite sure he understood why he wanted to give Sora a kiss, but he did.

“Why do you wanna kiss me?”

“Wha--?” Riku snapped out of his thoughts when he head Sora’s voice. “What was that?”

“Why would you wanna kiss me?” Sora asked again.

Riku put his hand to his chin and thought for a moment and thought to himself. Sora and him weren’t quite ready to understand, or at least, Sora wasn’t. He was ready; he just wasn’t quite sure he understood it....

“You’re a little young...” Riku muttered.

“That’s not fair! If you were going to kiss me, I should know the reason why!” Sora cried.

“Well, you’re not going to let me kiss you. So I don’t think I need to tell you–“ Riku began to say, casually.

“But that’s not fair!”

Sometimes, Sora could be much too childish, even for Riku, and also in spite of the fact they were children. Riku smirked at this and continued.

“Let me finish, Sora. I promise you though, that I’ll explain it to you in…” Riku paused to think, then continued. “Let’s say… Ten years from now, on this same day.”

“Ten years?! That’s so long!”

“That’s how long it’ll take for me to form the right words. I promise; ten years to the day, at this carnival, in this compartment and ride.”

“Promise?”

“I promise...”

Little did Riku know, one year from then a girl named Kairi would come to the island. A few years after that everything would fall apart, and that by the time he found the words and understood the feelings, it would all be too late....

The Purple Carnival would never return.

Neither would Sora.
