Challenge: [052] Drown
Title: Suffocating Rivalry
Word Count: 369
Summary: Sora's about eight, Riku's nine, and Sora's trying to prove that he can do anything and everything better than Riku can. Only, what he's about to do isn't the brightest of ideas...
It was so cold. So very, very cold. The rain poured and splashed against the wood as I lingered inside the seaside shack. I was gonna prove that I could beat Riku at this stupid thing, no matter what!
A makeshift spear that I made out of some old twigs lying around was clenched in my bare fist, stepping outside into the cold world in the middle of a rain shower. "Ready..." Gulping, I charged straight forwards into the roaring sea but had no clue what would happen as I lingered in it.
Forever seemed to go by and nothing, nothing happened. Maybe, you couldn't catch one on a rainy day like this. But I had to beat Riku! I had to catch the biggest fish in the whole sea! Jumping, something splashed by my foot and slinked away. What was that? Joy overcame me, this was it! Stab. Stab. Stab. Stab. Crunch. It only took me a billion tries but, I finally did it! I caught one!
"Sora!!" That familiar voice, the one that belonged to my best friend and my rival: Riku. A heroic grin sprung up on my face as I exclaimed onto the beach where the silver haired boy stood, "Look Riku! I caught one!" Waving the fish that I had stabbed with my makeshift spear, Riku just shook his head, "C'mon. You're gonna drown out there in this..."
The rain was already pounding down harder and harder. It was so cold, like ice pounding against my skin. He was right, I should get out of there. "But, look! I caught one..." A smile formed on my face and I wadded through the thin, yet murky water back to shore. It grabbed me and dragged me straight down, the water. It was suffociating, I couldn't breathe, I had no time to think! Riku didn't take any time to think, either.
It was only minutes later that I found myself on the shore in the platinum haired boy's arms, crying. "I was so scared..." Grabbing my shoulder and giving it a tight squeeze, he said, "It's alright. You're safe, aren't you?" His smile made me happy, thinking that everything would be safe now. “Thank you, Riku...”
