fire_bringer told me to, and I'm a very obedient girl. Sorry for three drabbles straight in a row, but... yeah. First time posting. Use lube. :P
None written for challenges. I am too lazy.
Doll of Your Wish and Game of Pretend fit in with each other. The Better New is a stand-alone.
Enjoy.

Doll of Your Wish
He hadn’t come back.
Sora’s lips curled, but they curled into a smile; and he reached forward and gently put the fork back in Riku’s hand, watched as strong digits fumbled, failed. Something like a frown tugged at the otherwise placid face. Sora waited, but Riku made no move, fingers limp on the tabletop.
So he picked up the fork and poked it through the already-cut meat on the plate, bringing it to the older boy’s half-open mouth. No movement. His heart twisted, and again something tugged at Sora’s mouth, but his lips curved up instead of down.
Aqua eyes, like ice in their emptiness, flickered to Sora’s face; and then it went back to air and stayed there. But Sora kept the smile on, just in case. Riku didn’t like it when he frowned.
Not that this doll sitting in front of him was Riku.
Sora wished he had come back.

Game of Pretend
“We’re playing a game,” Kairi said suddenly, but Sora continued talking to Riku. The red-headed girl frowned as she watched Sora: how he fidgeted, how he’d break off in the middle of sentences, how his fingers twitched and grasped Riku’s hand tighter.
She tried again. “We’re playing a game.”
This time Sora did look up, more because he was giving up than because of want to pay attention to her. Kairi felt hurt, a tendril around her heart that was gradually tightening its grip.
“Okay. What are we playing?”
“We’re playing a game called ‘pretend’.”
But Sora still didn’t understand.

The Better New
Sora used to laugh and play with wooden toy swords. He’d chase Riku (and sometimes even Kairi) all over their Destiny Islands, and they’d all scream and scream and scream—but the good kind, not the bad kind.
Then Sora outgrew toy swords, and he welcomed it, and now he chased Heartless all over the worlds, and though the Heartless screamed Sora never screamed. He laughed instead, and grunted when hit, and a lot of the time he thought it was the good kind, too, not the bad kind, and then he’d think he liked his new playmates just fine.

Date: 2004-12-27 06:40 pm (UTC)The second one was a bit confusing. You set up a nice atmosphere, and there's a definite sense of POV: how Kairi feels about Sora, how Sora feels about Riku... But it just kind of dives into the situation, and it's hard to tell what exactly is going on.
The third one... is interesting. It proposes that Sora's happier fighting heartless, which... isn't the angle the game seemed to take, but certainly could be argued for. The concept is definitely soemthing to think about. But the drabble... falls a little short. It just didn't catch me emotionally like the first two.
